Hello Everyone,
Sorry It's been a while since last posting. I had my joint clinic on the 2nd of August and they gave me my surgery date! I was a bit apprehensive about if I'd get my date or not so I tried not to get to excited and hopeful just in case I was let down at the appointment.
I walked into the room after waiting half an hour extra due to the clinic times running over, by this time I was the only patient in the waiting room. Overwhelmingly there was so many health care professionals in the room which made me feel slightly anxious about the whole process. However it went really well and I wasn't in there long. I was able to look at x-rays and moulds of my teeth from the start of the process before braces at 13/14 years old to very recently post surgery. The change was phenomenal! The surgeon moved the moulds to the position that my teeth and jaw would sit after surgery and I was gobsmacked. Going from a massive overbite to no overbite at all made me beam with happiness. Seeing this change on the moulds made me so excited and even more determined to have my surgery. The orthodontist said that there will be slight tweaking on my right incisors and canines to close up a minute gap that would be present after the surgery. The way it slotted in nicely together was just even enough for me that I didn't care about the small gap. However the surgeon and the orthodontist were very happy with what I would look like post op and reassured me that it would change my life drastically for the better. If I remember rightly the movements on both jaws was going to be 6/5mm forward on the top jaw and the same on the bottom jaw. My surgical hooks didn't need to be applied to my braces as I had already had them on for a few months without bands, as I didn't need them.
I expect you are wondering what the date is? I can tell you it is the 21st of November 2017! This will come round so quickly. Originally this wasn't going to be the surgery date. One of the orthodontist team was looking through the diary and trying to schedule the surgery in. I was sat in the chair all excited and ready to hear when, hoping that it wasn't going to be far away. She gave me the 14th of November and asked if this date was satisfactory with me. This is my birthdate for those whom don't know. I was sat nervously hoping she wasn't serious and I was starting to think she was joking with me. I soon realised she wasn't and I then told her the 14th of November wasn't a good date as it is my Birthday, especially as it is my 21st this year. Immediately she replied with "oh gosh we cant have that not on your birthday of all days" and then changed it to the Tuesday after on the 21st of November. PHEW!
I will have further appointments to have my wafer fitted, apparently this will be three weeks before and a pre-op assessment also. I am still yet to receive these appointments and confirmation of my double jaw surgery. I cannot express how excited I am of receiving my surgery date and how relieved I am that it isn't on my Birthday and is before Christmas so I will have a few weeks to recover. All I have to do now is get myself all prepared. Once the operation is complete I will document my process as often as I can for those who are interested what this is about, people having or considering surgery or for anyone.
Thanks for reading everyone!
